A highly principled legal professional driven by a passion for his work, Mr. Jamieson has practiced law for more than 25 years and has actively represented clients, or acted as a legal consultant, in child abuse cases in more than 20 states. He began his family law practice in Maine, assertively representing men and women in divorce cases. When child abuse allegations increased dramatically in the mid-1980s in the context of divorce and in other areas of litigation, Mr. Jamieson successfully defended many individuals accused of child abuse and neglect in criminal, family, and juvenile courts.
As a result of handling litigation in divorce cases, the defense of criminal cases, and representing individuals in child abuse and neglect cases in juvenile court, Mr. Jamieson has developed a keen understanding of how these distinct court proceedings impact on one another in the context of child abuse and neglect cases. His expert comprehension of these three interrelated, yet different, systems assist Mr. Jamieson in devising strategies in child abuse and neglect cases so that action taken in one venue (i.e. a criminal case) will not adversely impact in the family law case. Such information is vital in acting as a consultant or an attorney in child abuse or neglect cases. His expertise in this area has made him a very sought after defense attorney for child abuse and neglect cases for more than two decades.
A proponent that knowledge via continuous education is a critical element to the success of abuse defense, Mr. Jamieson educates himself with the latest information appropriate to these types of cases including: child developmental psychology, the sociology of relationships, the medical and physical symptoms which mime physical or sexual abuse, psychological and medical research as it relates to child abuse and neglect, and the application of legal principles relevant to these areas.
As a result of his extensive experience in child abuse cases, Mr. Jamieson has been able to meet and work with other experts throughout the country in the disciplines described above. He has attended and continues to attend legal and mental health seminars regarding these issues — and expanding his already extensive professional resource library for the end purpose of expertly defending clients who have been falsely accused of child abuse and/or neglect.
In summary, Mr. Jamieson’s philosophy is to provide assertive, proactive representation in his cases while guiding clients and attorneys through the emotional and legal chaos which often results from a false allegation of child abuse. Mr. Jamieson has provided representation for individuals falsely accused of child abuse in the context of criminal cases, family law cases, juvenile court cases, labor arbitrations, and other legal forums. He is committed to proactive, assertive representation for each of his clients, regardless of their geographic location in the United States. Recognizing the importance of open communication in any case, Attorney Jamieson returns all phone calls within 24 hours, and encourages frequent and open discussion.
Mr. Jamieson graduated from Dartmouth College in 1975, magna cum laude, and earned his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1978. While in law school, he was very active in advocacy issues, served as the co-chairman of the Moot Court Board, and was successful in arguing legal issues in intramural and international moot court contests. He was admitted to practice law in Maine in 1978 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1990.
